Friendships that Make a Difference

Does Your Friendship Matter?

This past Sunday we looked at why God wants us to have friendships with people who are "on the margin," people who are social outcasts, and simply people who don't know Jesus yet. I wonder what would happen if each of us would commit to becoming friends with just 1 person outside our Christian and Church circle. Someone who needs a friend who will listen. Someone who needs a friend who will point them to Jesus by our words and by our life. Someone who would be willing to work through the hard questions?

You were born to be that person. The one who offers genuine friendship and a safe place for a searching person to find God.

If you missed this week's message, you can watch it here.

Let's continue to be in prayer about what God wants us to do, and how He wants us to engage in the opportunity to participate with city churches and ministries in this outreach event.

It is a Community Initiative

We are not in this alone. Actually, there are 13 churches and ministries currently committed to this initiative.
  • Alethia
  • Asbury United Methodist
  • Cru
  • Grace Covenant
  • Church of the Incarnation
  • Church of the Lamb
  • Divine Unity Community Church
  • Eastside Church
  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes
  • First Presbyterian
  • Potter's Hous Worship Center
  • River Oaks Church
  • West Side Baptist

How can You Help?

Here are some ways you can be involved now:

  1. Pray.
  2. Begin to explore at www.exploregod.com. A great site with many resources and videos to help us all get ready to engage.
  3. Become a social media helper to manage clear communication to the community concerning these opportunities
  4. Commit to lead a discussion group. There is fantastic material to help you do this. These are not just "church groups," but meant to be groups that meet in public places outside of church so that non-churched people will have a place to come and deal with the hard questions. If you are interested, please click here to let me know right away.
Thank you for your prayers and participation in what God is doing in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.

Let's walk in God's Grace and Power today!

Which Guy will you be?

On Sunday, we compared the two "guys" Jesus talked about in Luke 18. Jesus compared a Pharisee (religious person) to a tax collector (humble worshipper). He made it clear that the tax collector came away justified in his worship because of his humility.  Some of the characteristics of the Pharisee (Don't be that guy) were. He loved to compare himself to "sinners" to feel better about who he was. He loved to compare himself to "lowly worshippers" who weren't giving as much as he was. He kept a list of stuff he did for God as a way of impressing God and others. On the other hand, the tax collector came to God with these attitudes: He came humbly He was sorrowful and repentant. He recognized his need for grace and mercy The Big difference between the two was that the tax collector, in his humility, was able to: Rest in what God had done and would do by His grace. Reach out to others because of what He had been given. Releas...

Is There a God?

Great Question! How would you answer? Are you aware that you can not prove that He is? You can believe and you can see evidence, but to prove is another story. So, why DO you believe there is a God? How can you talk with those around you about this question that everyone considers at one time or another? We explored this question on Sunday. Click the link below to watch the message online now.
